Free Furniture Before Pictures

Here are the pictures I promised! The pictures don't really do a great job of showing how oogly they are...I'll take more pictures in better light before I get started on redoing them.

The filing cabinets that I acquired both look the same, so I only took pictures of one. Like I said, they're a dingy yellowed-beige color, and have gaudy gold/brass hardware. Can't really tell here...but they're very ugly.

Like I said, though, they're wood, and seem to be nice and solid, and should clean up really nicely.

Here's the night stand, which is in much better condition than the filing cabinets (aside from the water damaged top). It's painted all a crisp white, and will probably be a nightmare to strip down, but has some great potential. I like the detail on the drawer. Now to figure out what color to redo it in.

I don't have a plan for the night stand yet, but here's the inspiration for what I'm planning on doing with the filing cabinets. I saw this idea awhile ago, and wanted to do it in my art room, until I remembered that my closet doors aren't the same type as these:

I won't use the over-the-top amount of one color, nor will I plaster the back wall with a floral wallpaper, but I like the idea of using the filing cabinets for the base of a desk in the closet. Like I said, I need to figure out what color I want to redo them in. But I think I'm going to use some textured wallpaper like in this project to add some pizazz and character.

I think I'm going to run over to Lowe's and see what I can find :)
More updates to come.
(too bad I don't have a workshop to do all this work in)

*EDIT* I did swing by Lowe's to investigate the wonders of textured wallpaper. They had pretty much what I was looking for, but it was $16.00ish per roll, and I don't need an entire roll. Not only that, but I'd still have to paint it and glaze it in order to get it to look like what I want it to, so I might find a fabric or scrapbook paper to modpodge to the side instead. We shall see.

I saw something like that in a model home Jeff and I looked at pre-kids, and thought it looked so cool.
