Tonight, we're watching Santa Who?This is not good. This movie is not impressing me so far. I feel guilty about writing a poor review for a movie Leslie Nielsen is in, what with his recent passing, but I'm currently feeling like I'd rather be at the dentist's office, or stuck in traffic, or really just not watching this movie. We've got a good setup right now: the fire is blazing in the fireplace, the lights are out, and I'm curled up in a big, soft, comfy chair...the only bad thing is that this movie is on my TV.
The characters (other than Nielsen's) are lame, the relationships between them seem forced and contrived, the elves are tall, and apparently Santa is indestructible (he fell from the sleigh in the sky, landed on the hood of a car, and merely lost consciousness...and his memory...from the fall).
Okay, so far, my favorite part has been the Santa auditions. That was funny.
I do like the outfit "Santa" chose for himself. Too bad I couldn't find a picture of it :(
The airport scene was interesting, only because the movie was released in 2000, and there's no way those elves would have made through airport security with all those suspicious packages after 9-11-01.
Seriously...this movie is painful. I think it makes it so much worse that Nielsen is actually rather endearing in this role, and I want to like it because he's doing a good job...but his supporting cast is...well...not supporting him. The script so far isn't really all that bad, but the casting/acting is horrific (again, with the exception of Nielsen). The elves are unbearable.
"Talk?"
"Yeah, you know: words without singing?" -- hahahaha!
Ugh :( More over dramatic acting that detracts from the film rather than adds to it. Just what I wanted.
I do have to say that this kid is not an obnoxious kid actor, which is a plus. Actually, some of the faces he makes remind me a lot of my niece. Not at all that she looks like a boy, because she doesn't...but some of the faces he makes where you know he's up to no good, but he's being sneaky about it. My niece is very good at making that face ;) And their happy face is kind of similar too :)
The slapstick in this movie sucks too. Or, at least this guy is just horrid.
Oh. My. Word. The elves' really awkward slow-motion reveal was disturbing. I mean, really creepy.
Overall, I'm very disappointed. I don't know what I was expecting, but that movie just wasn't very good. It had a few good bits, but they were few and far between.
I'm going to have to give this movie 1 sugar plum, and 3 lumps of coal - the worst rating by far that I have issued. I will, however, rank Leslie Nielsen 4.5 sugar plums, as he did an excellent job, and can't help who his cast members were.
I do wonder if I would have liked the movie better had I seen it as a child. I just don't know.

probably not, my kids rarely sit through live action movies unless things are blowing up or there are sword fights.
Now, I'm curious to see the kid's face.
